Lipolysis

A double chin or a small pocket of fat can be a concern even if you are happy with your weight.

Lipolysis, also known as fat-dissolving injections, helps reduce localised fat deposits and create more defined facial contours.

At Decus, we select the most suitable product and number of treatments based on the area being treated and your goals.

Why choose lipolysis?

Reduces a double chin

If excess fat beneath the chin makes your facial profile look rounder, a suitable injectable treatment can help reduce fullness in this area.

Targets problem areas

Lipolytic injections can also help reduce small, localised fat deposits that are difficult to address through weight loss or exercise alone.

No surgery required

The procedure does not involve incisions or general anaesthesia. However, you should be prepared for possible swelling, tenderness and recovery time following the injections.

How does lipolysis (fat-dissolving injections) work?

During lipolysis, a product is injected beneath the skin into the area where localised fat reduction is desired. The effects and precise mechanism of action depend on the product used. Not all lipolytic products have the same composition or level of supporting scientific evidence.

  1. We assess the treatment area. The specialist determines whether the concern is caused by excess fat, skin laxity or anatomical characteristics.
  2. We select the product and treatment plan. We consider your desired results, the area of the face or body, possible contraindications and the expected number of treatments.
  3. We perform the treatment and provide aftercare instructions. Swelling, redness, tenderness and bruising may occur immediately afterwards.

Products used at Decus include RRS-HA Cellutrix, MesoSculpt C71 and products from other well-known brands. Our specialist will help you choose the most suitable option.

Which areas can be treated with lipolysis?

Double chin and the area beneath the chin

Lipolysis is one option for reducing fullness caused by excess fat beneath the chin. Whether the treatment is suitable depends, among other factors, on skin elasticity. If loose skin is the main concern, reducing fat through lipolysis may not achieve the full desired result.

Small fat deposits on the face

In certain cases, lipolytic injections are also used to improve facial contours. However, due to the anatomy of the face and the proximity of blood vessels and nerves, treatment in this area requires particularly careful assessment beforehand.

Localised fat deposits on the body

Decus also offers lipolytic treatments for the body. For the abdomen, arms and other areas, it is important to assess whether using a particular product in the chosen area is appropriate and safe.

What results can you expect from lipolysis?

Lipolysis is intended for gradual contour improvement rather than rapid weight loss. Changes may not be visible immediately after the injections, as initial swelling can temporarily make the treated area appear even fuller. The effect becomes more pronounced over time.

  • The area beneath the chin becomes less full.
  • Facial or body contours become more defined.

Please note: A course of treatments is generally required to achieve the desired results. The extent of the improvement varies from person to person and depends on the treatment area, the product used and the condition of the skin.

During your consultation, we will assess what results are realistic in your case and whether lipolysis is the most suitable treatment for you.

Lipolysis or cryolipolysis – which should you choose?

Both treatments are designed to reduce localised fat deposits, but they use different methods.

  • Lipolysis involves injections of fat-dissolving products.
  • Cryolipolysis uses a specialised device to freeze fat cells through controlled cooling.

The choice depends on the treatment area, the thickness of the fat layer, skin condition and which method is clinically appropriate.

If you want to improve the contours of a larger area of the body, you may wish to explore cryolipolysis at Decus.

Keep in mind that factors other than fat deposits can also affect the shape of the jawline, so different contouring treatments are not necessarily interchangeable.

Contraindications and possible side effects of lipolysis

Before treatment, your health conditions, current medication, allergies, previous injectable treatments and any contraindications associated with the specific product must be assessed.

Injections are not administered into areas affected by active infection or inflammation, or during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Blood clotting disorders and previous surgery in the chin or neck area also require particular attention. If you are unsure about any contraindications, consult a Decus specialist.

Possible side effects include pain, redness, swelling, bruising, changes in sensation and small lumps that can be felt at the injection sites. Less commonly, more serious complications may occur, such as infection, tissue damage or nerve injury. In the facial area, these complications may also affect facial expressions.

If you experience severe or worsening pain, difficulty swallowing, fever or facial asymmetry, seek medical attention immediately.

How to prepare for lipolysis and what to expect afterwards

Come to your appointment so that the specialist can examine the area to be treated. Inform them about all medication you are taking (especially medication that affects blood clotting), allergies and previous procedures. Do not stop taking prescribed medication without medical advice.

After the injections, you may experience swelling and tenderness. Follow the aftercare instructions provided by your specialist and those specific to the product used.

If you have an important photoshoot or event coming up, schedule your treatment with the possibility of visible injection marks in mind.

Frequently asked questions

Lipolysis means the breakdown of fat. At Decus Beauty Clinic, the term refers to injections of lipolytic products designed to reduce small, localised fat deposits.

It may help if the main cause of a double chin is excess fat beneath the skin. If the concern is primarily caused by loose skin or anatomical characteristics, a different treatment may be needed.
Our beauty specialist will advise you and, if necessary, explain other treatments available at the clinic for fat reduction, skin tightening and contour improvement.

No. Lipolytic injections are not a substitute for weight loss. The treatment is intended to reduce small fat deposits in specific areas.

This depends on the treatment area, the product used and the desired results. In some cases, two or three treatments are sufficient, while other areas may require as many as six.

You may feel a pricking or stinging sensation during the injections, followed by tenderness afterwards. The level of discomfort and swelling depends, among other factors, on the treatment area and the product used.

Changes develop gradually and may not be visible immediately after treatment. The area may initially be swollen. The exact timeframe depends on the product used and the treatment plan.

No. Lipolysis, in this context, is an injectable treatment, while cryolipolysis reduces fat through controlled cooling. The methods differ in their suitable treatment areas, limitations and recovery requirements.

If excess fat beneath the chin is the main reason for a less defined jawline, lipolysis may help. However, if you want to change the shape of your chin or your facial proportions, other treatments may be more suitable. A specialist can help determine the best option.

You can find lipolysis prices in the Decus price list. Keep in mind that a single treatment is usually not sufficient, and a course of treatments is generally required.
The price list also includes the cost of courses consisting of different numbers of treatments.

Many people can return to their daily activities, but visible swelling, bruising or tenderness may occur. When planning your treatment, consider the nature of your work and the specialist’s recommendations.

It depends on your health conditions and the specific product used. The treatment may be unsuitable if you have active inflammation, are pregnant, have certain medical conditions or take particular medications. If you are unsure, book a consultation – it is free of charge.
