How pigment spot removal works?
Pigment spot removal at Decus Clinic is carried out using light energy. The laser targets the melanin within dark spots. Under the effect of light, the pigment heats up and the melanin breaks down. The treated area gradually lightens as the pigment particles are naturally eliminated from the body.
The darker the spot, the more light energy it absorbs – which means the results are even more noticeable right after the session. Over time, the skin tone becomes increasingly even as all the broken-down melanin leaves the skin.
Who is pigment spot removal for?
Laser treatment is suitable both for congenital spots (such as freckles) and for darker spots caused by sun exposure or other external factors.
The most common indications for pigment spot removal include:
- Unwanted freckles
- Pigment spots caused by excessive sun exposure
- Age-related dark spots
- Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation
- Pigment spots caused by hormonal changes
- Pigment spots caused by illness or medication
Laser therapy can generally remove pigment spots regardless of their cause. The duration and number of sessions depend on your skin’s condition.

Procedure
The treatment is performed at Decus Clinic using the Harmony XL laser from Alma Lasers (Israel).
- During the procedure, your eyes are protected with special goggles.
- The specialist marks the pigmented areas and adjusts the laser intensity according to their darkness.
- Each spot is treated individually, targeting melanin in the skin with light.
- The built-in cooling system ensures comfort and reduces any discomfort.
- After the procedure, slight redness may appear, which subsides within a few days.
Depending on your goals, the course may consist of 3–6 sessions at 2–3-week intervals. The exact plan is determined by the specialist after assessing your skin.
Results of pigment spot removal
Laser pigment spot removal delivers visible results. Noticeable improvement can be seen even after the first session. For the full effect, it is important to complete the full course recommended by your specialist, as each area of skin can only be treated once per session.
- After the procedure, apply sunscreen of at least SPF 30 every three hours.
- Avoid sunbathing and solariums for one month after treatment.
It is crucial to protect your skin from excessive sun exposure, as sunlight may cause pigment spots to return over time. This is particularly important after removing congenital freckles.
